The Cross of Jesus Christ is a Symbol of God’s Love
The Cross of Jesus Christ is a Symbol of God’s Love
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
The cross of Jesus Christ is the highest demonstration of the love, grace and mercy of God. There are 2 striking Old Testament promises that fund their application in the Cross.
1. Jeremiah 31:3 (KJV)
The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
2. Jeremiah 3:14 (KJV)
Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
Why and how could God love and be Covenanted to backsliders and wicked men? The Cross is where he did that!
A) The love of God towards us began before we ever knew The Lord or met him. Before we ever stepped in church or heard the gospel preached to us, God for-knew us. God did not start liking us when we started coming to church or when we became Christians. No! He had his eyes on us all the while. Through the Cross, he consummated his love towards us.
B) On the Cross, God justified and glorified those whom he predestinated.
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:29-31 NIV)
C) Through the Cross, God proved that We were his choice.
Why did you chose me?
Why did you call me?
Why did you set your love on me?
What did you see in me?
He just chose me before i chose him
He loved me before i loved him
He knew me ever before I knew him
I was on his mind. He set his love on me
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 KJV)
D) Grace is the manifestation of the Love of God.
Grace is the favor of God discharged towards a man
Grace is the overflowing mercy of God on your life.
Grace is God’s extra on your ordinary; God’s super on your natural
For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) (Romans 5:17 KJV)
This is pure grace!
E) All we need to do is embrace and accept the Love of God demonstrated through Calvary.
We must Stop trying to impress God with who we are and what we have.
We must cease rom a life of struggling and trying. We just need to embrace his love.
He did not choose us because we impressed him.
We had nothing but he chose us
We were nothing but he chose us.
F) Grace goes to work when the love of God is unconditionally accepted.
Love is the engine of Grace.
Without accepting this Love of God demonstrated at Calvary, we cannot enjoy the fullness of God’s grace.
For if by one man’s offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) (Romans 5:17 KJV)
