The Contrite Spirit Is Well Pleasing To God
Isa. 66:1-4
The religious person tries to please God in many ways – builds great and beautiful worship places; offers all manners of sacrifice to God; follows sets of religious rules and practices; etc. God is not impressed by all these shows of religion. All the things that man offers to God in form of sacrifice or temple structure are given to man by God Himself. He does not need these things. What God appreciates most is a heart that is contrite, a heart that is aware of his spiritual poverty and has the fear of God. God is interested in a person that does not take His commandments for granted, but strives to obey them. Sin, in whatever guise or how grievous or trivial it appears, is abomination before God. A person who takes delight in sin or has a cavalier attitude to sin makes himself an abomination before God.
POINT OF EMPHASIS: God takes delight in him who is poor in and of a contrite spirit.
PRAYER POINT: Father, grant unto me a spirit that does not take delight in its fallen nature, but seeks to be touched by You.
