The Principle Of Love
1 Sam. 18:1-4; 19:1-3
Love, the unconditional one for that matter, is paramount in all interpersonal relationships. Many relationships are not thriving the way they should because genuine and sacrificial love is missing. What many people have for one another is conditional love – do for me and I will do for you. Some even pay lip service to love by saying it with their mouth but their actions do not match with their profession. The Bible says do not love in word or tongue, but indeed and in truth (1 Jn. 3:18). Jonathan, the son of King Saul and heir to the throne, loved David, a commoner at that time, as his own soul. This love for David did not change even when it became obvious that David would prevent him from becoming the next King in Israel after his father. When he heard that Saul wanted to kill David, instead of colluding with his father, Jonathan revealed the secret to David and made him escape. This is nothing but unconditional and sacrificial love in action. This is what God is expecting from believers in their interpersonal relationships.
Point of Emphasis: Relate with everyone in love, even the unlovable.
Prayer Point: Lord, help me to have genuine love for all people as I relate with them.
