Jesus Gives Believers’ Authority

Mk. 16:14-20

The disciples were reprimanded for their unbelief, and hardness of their heart for not believing those who had seen the risen Jesus (verse 14). They were thereafter saddled with the responsibility to go out and preach the gospel. He knows that no man can preach the gospel successfully without the Holy Spirit, He, therefore, empowered them (verses 15-18). The mandate Jesus gives all believers is to go and preach the gospel to all nations. He backs up the assignment with authority, (verse 17) Jesus gives obedient followers authority to cast out evil spirits. He empowers them to speak in new tongues, with the promises of safety and protection from harm. It is gratifying that as the disciples obeyed and went out preaching everywhere, the Master Himself was with them, confirming the word with miracles. The authority to cast out demons and heal the sick is vested in the church, of which you are a member. We must take practical steps to activate the authority. When we preach to unbelievers and pray for them, God confirms His word. He performs miracles, signs and wonders. God is still in the business of working miracles. Make up your mind to go out to preach His word, and signs and wonders will happen.

Point of Emphasis: Go out to preach and you will see signs and wonders.

Prayer Point: Lord, inspire me to aggressively preach Your word.
