Baptism Signifies Death
Matt. 20:20-23
Before the crucifixion of Jesus, when James, John and their Mother came to Jesus to ask for a privileged position in His kingdom, Jesus asked them if they could drink from the cup He would drink (signifying His suffering) and if they are ready to be baptised with the baptism which He would undergo (signifying His death), to which they answered yes. Jesus then affirmed that they would indeed suffer and die for His sake but the position is for those that the Father had decided to give it to. In essence, Jesus Himself affirmed that baptism symbolises death and anyone that has undergone it is dead to sin, the flesh and the world.
Point of Emphasis: At baptism, you are dead with Christ.
Prayer Point: Help me Lord to be dead to sin, the flesh and the world.
