A Little Sleep, A Little Slumber Leads To Poverty
Prov. 6: 6-11
Profound lessons can be learnt from the ant. The Bible mentions some unique qualities of these little creatures – they are well organised, industrious, prudent and proactive. Human beings don’t seem to be as smart as these little creatures. Poverty doesn’t come in a day; it’s a cumulative effect – a little indulgence, procrastination, etc. The habits of indolence and indulgence do grow upon people, which gradually draws poverty closer; and when it finally arrives, it becomes too strong to be resisted. When you see a man at 50 years of age working as a bus conductor or a motor boy, you are tempted to ask what he was doing when he was 20 or 30 years old. The youths often have the illusion that there is still time; why in a hurry! So they waste time and resources indiscreetly. The Bible says a little sleep and a little folding of hands to sleep leads to poverty. Although not all cases of poverty or lack may be attributed to laziness, majority of them are. Like the ant, we need to work smartly, invest prudently, be proactive, be frugal in our spending, and save for the rainy day. Remember that no one becomes poor without his approval
POINT OF EMPHASIS: You need to protest against any attitude that can lead to poverty in your life.
PRAYER POINT: Lord, deliver me from ways of life that can lead to poverty
