Members of the Glorious Church
Heb. 12:18-24
The church can be described as the gathering of “the called out people”. Those who are called out of darkness into the marvelous light of God (1 Pet. 2:9). Two types of mountains were described in today’s text – Physical Mount Sinai and Spiritual Mount Zion. Mount Sinai was the gathering place for the brought out people of God from slavery in Egypt, where God was worshipped with fear and trembling with a boundary for the people not to touch the mountain (Exo. 19:21). Those were in the good olden days! In our times we have a mountain, though the unspiritual mind may ridicule those of us who view the mountain through the eyes of faith. We know that our mountain is far more substantial than Mount Sinai. It is greater, more enduring, loftier and more magnificent. On Mount Zion, the Lord called us to come up to experience the glories there, both in this life and the next. The church members here, were described as those “… who are registered in heaven …” (Heb. 12:23). Your name can be “registered in Heaven”, if you decide to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour (Rom. 10:9). The question here is “am I a member of the glorious church?”
Point of Emphasis: Be careful not to handle your membership of Christ’s glorious Church with levity.
Prayer Point: Help me Lord, not to lose my membership of Christ’s glorious Church.
