Conflict Is Real
Matt. 18:1-7
Jesus dealt with a particular conflict among His disciples during His earthly ministry. In our passage this morning, there is an issue that is not supposed to be mentioned among Christians. It was an issue of jealousy that Jesus had to resolve which made the disciples change their attitude. Jesus’ followers asked Him “Who would be the greatest” in His kingdom? The position of Jesus is seen in His response, He wants His followers to love and serve each other instead of competing for position. He warns them that situations will arise that will make people to contest for greatness. Jesus expects us to act responsively. In verse 7, He affirmed that offenses will come but how terrible will it be for the person that makes another to lose his or her faith. Don’t allow yourself to be used to cause offense or conflict.
Point of Emphasis: Love and serve each other instead of competing for position.
Prayer Point: Lord Jesus, don’t allow me to be an agent of offenses that are ravaging to the church.
