The Golden Rule Principle
Lk. 6:30-36
The command in verse 31 has been regarded as the Saviour’s Golden Rule, a name given to it on account of its great value. Many religions teach a negative version of this statement. Confucius said, “What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.” But Jesus stated this in a positive manner, making it even more powerful. While it may be possible not to do evil to others, it is much more difficult to take the initiative to actually do to others as you would like them to do to you. A person may be able to keep the negative form of the law by avoiding sin, but to keep the positive form requires action. All that you expect or desire of others in similar circumstances do to them. Act not from selfishness or injustice, but put yourself in the place of the other, and ask what you would expect of him then. This would make you impartial, candid, and just. It would destroy avarice, envy, treachery, unkindness, slander, theft, adultery, and murder. Endeavour to apply this Golden Rule Principle in your interpersonal relationship and you will be the son of your heavenly Father.
Point of Emphasis: Do to others what you want others to do to you.
Prayer Point: Help me Lord, to always do according to Your will and word to others.
