Born Of God
1 Jn. 3:9-11
A believer is “born of God” when he or she accepts Jesus as his or her Lord and Saviour. The Holy Spirit gives us new life. “Whoever is born of God does not sin” means that true believers do not make sin a practice. There is a difference between living in sin (that is, making sin a practice) and committing sin (that is, occasionally falling into sin). Being born-again is more than a fresh start; it is a rebirth, receiving a new family name based on Christ’s death for us. When this happens, God forgives us and totally accepts us, the Holy Spirit gives us new mind and heart. The Holy Spirit will begin to live in us and continue to help us to become like Christ. Our perspective will change too because we have a mind that is being renewed day by day by the Holy Spirit. We must not be deceived by the doctrine of eternal security. We must have genuine concern for spiritual growth to be like Jesus.
Point of Emphasis: Whoever that is born of God does not make sin a practice.
Prayer Point: Help me o Lord not to make sin a practice. I refuse to live in sin in Jesus’ name.
