Relationship Between Leaders And Members
1 Pet. 5:1-4
Church leaders should regard members of the congregation as sheep under their care. Leaders are often referred to as shepherds and Jesus Christ as the Chief Shepherd. The relationship between the leaders and the congregation should be similar to the one between the shepherd and the sheep in the fold. The shepherd should not take the sheep as mainly his source of food and sustenance, but should realize that the sheep is somehow weak and helpless. The sheep need tender care, protection, guidance and understanding. A good shepherd would not allow the weakness of his sheep to exasperate him. He should be very patient with those who are weak and protect them from marauders. Church leaders should protect members from false doctrines and encroachment from sin.
Point of Emphasis: Shepherd the flock of God which is among you willingly and not for dishonest gain.
Prayer Point: Father, grant unto our leaders the true shepherd’s heart.
