Admonish Children In The Fear Of The Lord
Eph. 6:1-4
Christian parents are always anxious to get their children to know the Lord and to commit their lives to the Lord fully. There is also the anxiety to get the children to succeed in academics, in career and in marriage. This anxiety drives fathers to become too stern on their children. Too much sternness ends up having the opposite effect on the children – children are driven to take opposite side in these matters and become rebellious. Admonition should be done with gentleness but also with firmness. The purpose of admonition should never be forgotten – it is to prevent a likely problem ahead. The method is to admonish firmly but with gentleness, coupling admonition with training, discussion and encouragement. Training involves showing the children how to achieve what we want them to do.
Point of Emphasis: Bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Prayer Point: Father, give Christian parents the wisdom of how to admonish their children effectively.
